There was a point late last year and earlier this year where being a female electronic artist meant you were Nika Roza Danilova, aka Zola Jesus. You could never be sure that the praise being heaped on Danilova was completely warranted. Beyond a few very good tracks there were many that didn't go the distance. Laurel Halo on the other hand seems to have flown right under the hipsters radar. Hailing from Ann Arbor, Michigan, Halo has been making her own brand of electronic music for a while now. She's a little bit chillwave, a little bit avant-garde new age... or something. Perhaps Halo is best summed up in her track, Metal Confection.
